Within the upcoming T*H AAR FESTIVAL, Tanz*Hotel opens all its rooms and presents itself together with its environment in contemporary dance. The hotel metaphor and forms of hospitality fit once again into Bert Gstettner's concept of a lively and diverse dance experience. In each of the "hotel rooms", an exciting world can be found, expressed in the art of movement and the desire to create.

This piloting event, which will take place annually at TNH, will be a presentation of selected T*H co-productions from the residency project AAR - Artist At Resort and guest performances as well as Bert Gstettner's new choreography.

  _allochthon (UA | 22 min)

Choreography, Performance: Andrea Nagl | Music: Karlheinz Essl | Costume: Sarah Sternat
Cooperation: Temple of Sound, Acousmonuments

Based on Karlheinz Essl's sound installation SEELEWASCHEN, Andrea Nagl's choreographic movement structures refer in a free-associative way to her intensive exploration of themes of earth history, geology and natural phenomena in general. Like the soundscape, the subtle physicality engenders a state that is in constant change, like a living organism.  Andrea Nagl >>>

Materialstudie: Papier und Metall (UA | 20-25 min)
Movvement, Sound: Inge Kaindlstorfer
Sound, Movement: Elisabeth Flunger

In their work with waste products and leftovers such as paper, cardboard, strings, textile, metal, Elisabeth Flunger and Inge Kaindlstorfer explore the possibilities of the materials for movement and the creation of sounds. Different dynamics and moods emerge from the handling of the objects. The object is not only an extension of the body, but it also expands the imagination and invention and becomes a carrier of meaning and a symbol. The things transform the actors into other beings and bring out new aspects of their personality. They become a masking that reveals hidden qualities.  lux flux >>>

B*BEPPU (Arbeitstitel | UA | 50 min)
Choreography: Bert Gstettner
T*H Cie.: Vera Djemelinskaia, Nikola Majtanova, Viviane Tanzmeister
Music: Chieko Mori, Oliver Grimm (Beppu Project)
Spatial Intervention: Peter Sandbichler | Costume: Hanna Adlaoui-Mayerl

Cooperation: Temple of Sound, Acousmonuments

Bert Gstettner's new choreography refers to the composition and collaboration of Japanese musician Chieko Mori (bass koto) and her Austrian partner Oliver Grimm (computer music). The choreographic process is dedicated to the music as well as to the research of elemental earthly forces and natural forces. More >>>

BLOCK II | Far East - Butoh Dance & Martial Arts | June 24 & 25, 2023

Fotos: W. Lopes by Sabrina Rocha | DaniMayu by Josef Fallnhauser | F. Feit by Atila Vadoc

 Kagebara (Premiere 2018 Italien | 35 min)
Konzept, Choreografie, Tanz: Will Lopes
Supervisation: Atsushi Takenouchi

The soul lost in the shadow world, the masculine at war, the feminine in oppression, the animal in revolution and the spirit in free flight towards eternal light are the main scenes that compose this solo. The piece recounts the archetypal human search for liberation from the dimensions that enslave us and the encounter with our free existence.  Will Lopes >>>

Ringoism (UA 2004 Wien | 30 min)
Konzept, Choreografie, Tanz, Kostüm: DaniMayu
Musik: JLHA, Bernhard Weiss

DaniMayu >>>

Kokyū - Atem (UA 2022, AAR Term 20 | 25 min)
Choreography, Performance, Music: Florian Feit
Music in collaboration with: Lawrence Ritchie | Mentoring, Dramaturgy: Bert Gstettner

The torch dragon winds around his mountain with his long serpent body. His breath echoes for a long time – it’s the wind, the sound, the season. He closes his eyes and darkness returns. Meanwhile, the wind sweeps gently through the grove - the flute player becoming one with the sound. "Kokyū - Breath" is a performative reflection on how the inner world may sound and how it can be expressed through music and movement. About the struggle with oneself, craving for calmness and silence, in an ever faster, louder world and on the all connecting living breath. arashicollective.com >>>

Florian Feits Kokyū - Atem is originally a Best of Artist At Resort | Due to Festival programming he will be part of "Butoh & Martial Arts".

27.6.: Into Pieces (UA 2022, AAR Term 20 | 25 min)
Konzept, Choreografie, Performance, Musik: Sara Wilnauer
AAR Term 20 Mentoring: Andrea Nagl | Stage, Costume: Bert Gstettner

In her choreography a character moves through a crumbling, broken world. The piece deals with one's own decay, vulnerability, courage, hope, curiosity and discovery. Voice and sound installations form the tonal framework. Referring to materials from previous choreographies by Bert Gstettner, she creates her own work in this residency.

28.6.: Forthcoming (Work in Progress Showing 2022, AAR Term 20 | 30 min)
Concept, Choreography, Performance: Niki&Martin Duo | Nikola Majtanova, Marcin Denkiewicz
Live-Music: Xavier Weydert | AAR Term 20 Mentoring: Bert Gstettner

What's next? - A question that everyone asks themselves in their life. Where is the moment of difference and transition into the unknown future? What happens in the middle of the process of knowing and not knowing? How is the relationship between mind, body and sensual awarness? The performers shift between the imaginary world and the reality of being in the moment in the performance space. What is reality in the end? To overcome the uncomfortable and unknown reality, the performers must leave their comfort zone, face their fears and dive deep into the risk-taking process.

27. + 28.6.: Still Talking To You (UA 2023, AAR Term 21 | 45 min)
Concept, Choreography, Performance: Viviane Tanzmeister | With: Margit Tanzmeister
Music: Nikson „Hululu”, Good Lee „Senseless“, BLACK FØREST „Care“, „Wauwii“ | Interviews: Saskia Horton, James Gallego Olivo, Siegfried und Hedwig Salzmann, Dovydas Laurinaitis, Margit Tanzmeister | AAR Term 21 Mentoring: Imani Rameses

Even when you’re not here anymore, you are present. And I am still talking to you. I talk through you to myself. In this solo-performance I invite people and animals that I lost to sit with me at the table: let's talk, let's linger, let's play! It is an attempt to make emptiness visible. A try to get in touch. With things that have been, things that remain and the inevitable. In search of comfort, peace and memory, I start the journey to explore loss. To come face to face with the various forms it expresses itself until I can live with and move through it.
