OPEN CALL: submit now your application for the upcoming studio residency, expired until October 26, 2026!
Artists working on new or further developing choreography and performance projects (solo, duo, trio) are welcome to apply for a mentored residency program "Artist At Resort Term 29".
Applications have to be based on contamporary dance, choreography or performance art. Three projects will receive a production budget as well as a performance fee (three presentations) for the showcases in accordance with the rates of the Viennese independent scene. The T*H Studios will be available for research from January 18 on. Further development of the projects will take place in February and March 2027. The final showcases are scheduled for April 15-17, 2027. The artists in residence and their projects will be supported by T*H and AAR artistic director choreographer Bert Gstettner and his co-mentors.

Key features of the AAR Residencies
* new works are created during the AAR residency
* the artists research, choreograph and perform under the guidance of mentors in the T*H Studios, which serve both as spaces of creation and for presentations
* residency and mentoring are closely interconnected and form a central focus: a cross-generational dialogue takes place between emerging artists with their projects and the artistic guidance provided by experienced mentors
Application requirements
* post graduate performing artist or dance artists with at least 3 years of experience as a freelancer of any age and background
* creation of a new choreographic performance work during the residency (20-40 min, solo, duo or trio)
* project description/concept (max. 3-A4 pages), optionally a project proposal in video format (max. 5 min), biography, links to recent works, full address
* the will to share your interests with the facility and other residency participants
* texts, photos, videos, etc. have to include the usual copyright information, AI-generated material has to be labeled accordingly
* applications can be submitted until October 26, 2026.
Residency contract includes:
* free studio use up to 120-160 hours
* mentorship and coaching sessions, meetings with other participants
* presentations and showcase of the new work with stage-technical support
* professional video-/photo documentation
* production budget € 600-900 for props, music, costume, travel - depending on the production design
* performance fee for each show - depending on duration (20-40 min) and constelleation (solo € 250-300, duo € 400-450, trio € 600-700)

Residency | Mentoring | Performance
In the AAR residency program, artists are invited - following an application process - by Bert Gstettner to work on a new choreographic-performative project at the T*H Studios. The artists are welcomed as equal partners who approach their works independently and autonomously. They are encouraged to fully dedicate themselves to their ideas, visions and research. Their artistic results are prepared and presented publicly at the T*H Studios.
The residencies will be accompanied in both artistically and in terms of production through the personal guidance of Bert Gstettner and his co-mentors. With more than 30 years of experience as a choreographer, company and label director Bert Gstettner is able to understand the concerns of younger artists and can support them in their creative processes. Mentors are available throughout the entire process for discussions, offering dramaturgical reflection and acting as an outside eye on rehearsals. A costume and props collection is available if needed. In the final phase, multiple technical sessions are held with the T*H technician in order to develop lights and sound for each performance. The performance is professionally documented through video and photography. Through the collaborative efforts of everyone involved, new works and co-productions are created.
Co-Curation | Co-Mentoring
Bert Gstettner has expanded the AAR team by involving fellow artists as co-curators and co-mentors in both the selection and creation processes. This opens up new collaborations and perspectives in choosing applicants and providing artistic support. Since 2022, collaborations have included Alberto Cissello, Andrea Nagl, Imani Rameses, Jasmin Schaitl, Inge Kaindlstorfer and Dorothea Zeyringer.
